‘Eat to live, don’t live to eat.’ This famous saying by Benjamin Franklin was definitely not on my mind when I headed to Café Blue Tomato. The café, which has derived its name from a rare breed of tomatoes available in France, is not very big but the absence of good Continental cafés in West Delhi has made this small cosy corner an instant hit amongst youngsters.
Ambiance
The contemporary interiors of the café are designed in an impressive manner to create a relaxed yet spirited atmosphere. The young, chic and well-lit interiors make it a very lively place. Near the entrance of the café, there is a big dining table called the Chef’s Special Table. The main aim of this table is to create a special dining aura. The rest of the space is dotted with wooden tables and chairs and comfy high-backed sofas. Also, like most cafés these days, they have also put up posters of various music legends.
Food
The food menu at Café Blue Tomato reflects of its deep continental influences, especially the authentic Italian dishes from the Naples region. They have a variety of salads, some innovative and some classics like the Cesar Salad as well as the Greek Salad. The whole wheat thin crust pizzas with different toppings – like the Hawaiian – are something we recommend you try when you go there. Apart from pizzas, other authentic risotto dishes are also a must try. All the sandwiches here are served along with French Fries and a Mini Lettuce Salad.
There is a wide range of main course dishes that include the XXL Raviolis Pasta with Nut Butter Sauce, Cubes of Cottage Cheese with Lemon Vegetables and Tomato Sauce, Vegetables Stroganoff with Rice or Butter Potato and Parsley, The Apple Chicken Curry with Boiled Rice and many more.
Drinks
The café is still waiting for the liquor license but they serve good thirst quenchers like Virgin Marry, Classic Mojito, Mango Mood and Big Joe Banana. However, their special Spicy Tempt – a combination of chat masala, lime juice, guava juice, Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce – is a must try.
Desserts
A good dessert is very important to complete a perfect meal. Café Blue Tomato has something for everyone, ranging from the classic Rich Tiramisu to Blue Ice Sundae to Crème Brulee and to the Chocolate Mud Cake.
The Man Behind Café Blue Tomato
The café is owned by professional chef Dheeraj Mangothra, who holds a hotel management degree from the Salzburg University in Austria. No wonder then that the menu has been specially designed to serve authentic continental food – something he learnt to cook during his stay in Europe. Mangothra loves to let patrons tailor their dining menu as per their personal choices. He revealed to TimesCity that he’s planning on opening one more café in Rajouri Garden, and this time around it’s going to be authentic Chinese.
In a nutshell:
TimesCity Verdict: A perfect place to rejuvenate your taste buds.
