DÉCOR

Located on the ground floor of a commercial building, the paved pathway leading to the glass door of Turquoise Villa is lined with potted plants and umbrella-shaded outdoor seating.

The interiors of the restaurant have interesting elements like an upside down table, a deconstructed bicycle and a wall paneled with restored old wooden doors and windows, and attractive light fixtures. The seating arrangements range from deep seating settees to formal tables and chairs. There are bookshelves along the glass wall, with curtains that can be drawn when it gets too sunny. The restaurant is likely to appeal to various age groups and customer profiles from the youth to the family.

FOOD

The menu covers breakfast boards, snacks and platters that can be had on their own or as starters, soups (the Pop-a-Corn Twist with masala flavoured popcorn could be fun for kids), salads, mains, desserts and beverages. The beverages are excellent specially the Mojito and the coffees.

For starters, they also have some good sharing platters – the Nachos Supreme is a pile of crispy and crunchy chips topped with cheese, salsa, jalapeno , guacamole and sour cream (they also have the more classic Nachos with Cheese and Salsa, Chicken Nachos and Mexican Tacos if you don’t want too many sauces and toppings on your tortilla) and the Mediterranean Dip Platter with three dips to have with crispy pita bread. The fondues are also great for sharing – while they have Classic Cheese and Chocolate Dessert Fondues, the house special is the TV Spl Pav Bhaji Fondue (carried forward from the promoters’ earlier venture Turquoise Villa World Café) which is served with long-handled forks for dipping the pieces of pav-bread into the `bhaji’ which has a generous dose of tomato puree. For single starters or snacks, the TV Spl Amritsari Fish Pakoda has a light batter that allows you to taste the fish inside.

They are equally innovative with their sliders – some unusual ones are Vada Pav Slider (potato patty layered with chilly and Mumbai-style spices), Sweet Chili Jam, Crispy Quinoa, Paneer Tikka, Spicy Paneer, Crispy Chicken or Spicy Fish in soft and fresh home-baked small burger buns. The pizzas are hand rolled thin-crust pies that are soft and pliable so you can fold and eat them New York style, and come with unusual toppings like Goat Cheese-and-Olives, Anti Pasti (assorted veggies, sundried tomato and parmesan cheese), Piri Piri Veg/.Chicken, Chicken Bolognese Sauce, and even No Cheese for those on a diet. For those looking for something substantial, the Thai Shrimp Curry is excellent with a crisp and sharp flavour lent by the spices. They also offer an excellent Malay Curry with Roti Canai and Butter Chicken/Paneer Makhni with Paratha that are pretty good. The Tajine is a single dish in a clay pot but lacks flavour. The Beetroot Risotto is another of their specialties, and they also offer Cheesy Mushroom, Chicken and Shrimp Risottos. For dessert, the Banofi Pie is a must have for those who like bananas, and the Baked Cheese Cake, Choco Éclair and Tiramisu are also pretty good.

PLUS AND MINUS
